We have a Great Pyranees. As a pup she was wild, we kept her in the kitchen until it was time for the outdoors. They are very destructive if left alone. My husband build a 8' x 8' dog house with a wire fence supported by 4 x 4 posts (pen measures around 400'. Plenty of shade trees, 5 gallon bucket of water. Since their nature are protection of goats and sheep, i went to the Humane Shelter and picked up a part lab/boxer (she is now 8 months) and they absolutely adore each other. They've had their challenges, you know i love you, I hate you, stay away from my food. (they're competing with each other) But do they play and play. Roxie the little one (about 40 lbs.) is so fast for Sadie the Pyranees but they truly entertain me. The breed tends to roam, and she does. She'll go across to the neighbors and beg for treats and such but always comes home. They are in their pen all day Monday thru Friday and free on the weekends and in their pen every night. But, they are company for one another. If I could afford it, I'd have 10 more pyranees. Vet bills are very hefty. Keep heartworm and flea medication going monthly. I shaved the pyranees for the summer (they do not like the heat) I walk them at 5am every morning but during the evening, let them out and hang around because it's not cool enought to walk them. I have two kiddie pools in their pen as well and there is a bubbling brook in back of our property. But walking is very important for any dog, new sights, new smells, makes them tired and they sleep well if they feel they are being appreciated. Dogs love to be around us humans, they think we are part of their pack. So treat them well and appreciate them. Love them, pet them and brush them daily. My pyranees loves her belly rubbed. Dogs teach people to Love. Dog spelled backward spells "God". Nothing but love.
