Book Review

You may or may not know it, but I’m an avid reader.  My problem is really that I like to read TOO much, and once I’ve started a book, I really don’t want to do anything else until I’ve finished reading it.  Consequently, I’ve sworn off reading for the most part, in the name of keeping up with other things.  I still read a book once in a while though, and though my favorite genre is sci-fi, I’ve been reading other types of books of late.  Mostly because, I don’t get so into the book that I can’t put it down.

The book I just finished was an exception.  I just finished reading The Shroud of Turin by Ian Wilson.  For those who don’t know, the Shroud of Turin is reputedly the burial shroud of Jesus Christ.  This book is not a religious book, even though it deals with a religious relic.  The book traces the history of the shroud and details the scientific and historical evidence for it’s authenticity.  I found it absolutely riveting, and I’m not generally a history buff.  The book is a bit on the old side - published in the early 70’s.  The author has since published other books on the subject (as recently as 2003).  There has been a lot more research done on the shroud since the 70’s and presumably the newer books would detail the new findings.  If the local library has the newer book, I’ll definitely check it out to see what else has been discovered.

Two thumbs up, five stars, whatever rating system you like.  Definitely worth the read.
