Posting from e-mail
I’m trying to get posting by e-mail working. Why? ‘Cause I’m lazy. It’s
easier to open Outlook or Thunderbird, and fire off an email than it is to
got to my blog site, log in, click on the write link, etc, etc.
I had to fiddle with my new web host to find a way to set up the cron job
for checking the e-mail address. WordPress docs suggest using wget, curl,
or GET. None of which my web host allows me to have access too. The
workaround? php! I really like php, especially since you can use it to
execute scripts without it being in a web-page.
So I got that part all set up. What irritates me is that if I send a
message from MS Outlook, the formatting is all horked up when it displays.
It uses a tiny little font (must be getting old - 8pt didn’t used to seem
that small to me). It also puts in extraneous characters.
I’m writing this post from the Squirrel Mail web-mail client, which is
just about as plain-jane as it gets. Maybe the formatting will be better
from here.

Turns out using a web-based mail client doesn’t cause the same formatting issues as Outlook. Hmmm…I’ll have to try some other tweaks to Outlook to see if it’ll work.
