I’m trying to get posting by e-mail working. Why? ‘Cause I’m lazy. It’s
easier to open Outlook or Thunderbird, and fire off an email than it is to
got to my blog site, log in, click on the write link, etc, etc.
I had to fiddle with my new web host to find a way to set up the cron job
for checking the e-mail address. WordPress docs suggest using wget, curl,
or GET. None of which my web host allows me to have access too. The
workaround? php! I really like php, especially since you can use it to
execute scripts without it being in a web-page.
So I got that part all set up. What irritates me is that if I send a
message from MS Outlook, the formatting is all horked up when it displays.
It uses a tiny little font (must be getting old - 8pt didn’t used to seem
that small to me). It also puts in extraneous characters.
I’m writing this post from the Squirrel Mail web-mail client, which is
just about as plain-jane as it gets. Maybe the formatting will be better
from here.

I don’t stay as technically informed as I used to (nor as much as I’d like to), so I may be a bit behind the times on this one.
I found this today: XGL/Compiz
Which is just about the coolest desktop functionality I have ever seen. Sadly, it’s on Linux only, and I run Windows for work (gotta make a living) and at home because there just isn’t that much kids software for Linux. Someday I’ll have a machine that is my “toy” and I can run whatever I like.

Well, maybe not the center ring. Maybe the left ring. Or maybe I’m the guy sweeping the crud out from under the bleachers.
We called our site “The Three Ring Ranch” because we’ve got enough animals now to justify the “Ranch” part, and it’s just about as crazy as a circus. That and the domain name was available ;)
There’s a threeringranch.org, but it’s in Hawaii and it’s an exotic animal sanctuary. I didn’t think there would be any confusion.
Anyhow, I guess I’m a “blogger” now. I’ve been posting to a blog at work (internal only) for a year now, and kind of enjoy it, so I thought I’d share my thoughts with the world.
